Ring joint gaskets are metallic sealing elements designed for high-integrity flanged connections that must withstand extreme pressures, temperatures, and aggressive media. They fit into precisely machined grooves on RTJ flange faces, creating a tight metal-to-metal compression seal. The gasket deforms slightly upon bolt tightening, filling any irregularities and achieving a leak-tight joint. Common profiles include oval and octagonal cross-sections (R-type), as well as pressure-energized RX and BX designs used in API wellhead equipment.
