How to Select Valve Gaskets

Commonly used gaskets include non-metallic gaskets, semi-metallic gaskets, and metallic gaskets.

Non-metallic gaskets, also known as soft gaskets, include materials such as asbestos rubber sheets, rubber, and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Soft gaskets are used in applications with low temperature and pressure. Semi-metallic gaskets are composed of a combination of metallic and non-metallic materials, such as flexible graphite composite gaskets, spiral wound gaskets, and metal-clad gaskets. Semi-metallic gaskets can withstand a wider range of temperatures and pressures than non-metallic gaskets. Metallic gaskets are made entirely of metal and come in various shapes, such as corrugated, serrated, oval, octagonal, lens-shaped, and conical. Metallic gaskets are used in high-temperature and high-pressure applications.
