1. Basic Concepts
PVDF sheets are high-purity engineering plastics known for their exceptional chemical, abrasion, and flame resistance. They are commonly used in various industries like chemical processing, construction, and electrical/electronics due to their excellent properties, including resistance to UV radiation and corrosive substance.
2. Main features
Chemical stability:
Resistant to strong acids, strong alkalis, organic solvents and oxidants, stable in most chemical media (except concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated alkali).
Weather resistance:
Resistant to ultraviolet (UV) and nuclear radiation, no yellowing or brittleness in long-term outdoor use, and life span of more than 20 years.
Mechanical properties:
High strength, high toughness (impact resistance is better than PTFE and other fluoroplastics), good wear resistance and creep resistance.
Thermal properties:
Wide continuous use temperature range (-40°C to +150°C), melting point of about 170°C, excellent flame retardancy (UL94 V-0 grade).
Electrical properties:
High dielectric constant (about 8-9), suitable for high-frequency electronic applications; high volume resistivity, good insulation performance.
Surface properties:
Low surface energy, anti-fouling, hydrophobic, easy to clean.
3.Advantages and limitations of PVDF Sheet
Advantages
Overall performance is better than general plastics such as PVC, PP, PE;
Easier to process than PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) (can be melt-molded);
Environmentally friendly and non-toxic, some grades are recyclable.
Limitations:
Higher cost (about 3-5 times that of PVC);
Narrow processing temperature window (precise temperature control is required);
Poor transparency (usually translucent or opaque white).
4.Market and development trends
Demand growth: Driven by new energy (lithium batteries, photovoltaics) and environmental regulations, the annual growth rate of the PVDF market is about 8-10%.
