What Is Nylon Rod

23 - May - 2025

1. Basic Concepts

Nylon rod is a rod-shaped material with a cylindrical or rectangular cross-section made of nylon (polyamide, PA) material. It has excellent mechanical properties, wear resistance and chemical stability and is widely used in industry, machinery, electronics and other fields.

What Is Nylon Rod

2. Main features

Mechanical properties:

High strength, high toughness, good impact resistance, especially suitable for dynamic load occasions.

Strong fatigue resistance, can withstand repeated bending or vibration.

Wear resistance:

Low friction coefficient, good self-lubrication, better than metal and many plastics (such as PVC, PP), suitable for wear-resistant parts such as gears and bearings.

Chemical resistance:

Oil-resistant, resistant to weak acids and weak alkalis, but strong acids or oxidants may corrode nylon.

Not resistant to polar solvents such as phenols and formic acid.

Thermal properties:

Wide operating temperature range (-40℃~+120℃, nylon 66 can reach 150℃ for short-term use).

High heat deformation temperature (such as nylon 66 about 200℃).

Electrical insulation:

Good insulation properties, suitable for electrical components.

3. Common types

Nylon 6 (PA6):

Balanced overall performance, easy processing, low cost, but high water absorption.

Nylon 66 (PA66)

Strength, rigidity, and heat resistance are better than nylon 6, but water absorption is stronger.

Nylon 12 (PA12):

Low water absorption, good dimensional stability, and excellent low temperature resistance.

Reinforced nylon:

Adding glass fiber (such as PA6+GF30) significantly improves strength, rigidity, and heat resistance.

Wear-resistant nylon:

Adding molybdenum disulfide (MoS₂) or graphite further reduces the friction coefficient.
